Phosphorus Chloroiodides

By allowing PCl₃ to stand with an excess of iodine, crystals were obtained having the composition PCl₃I.

Iodine monochloride or trichloride was found to react with PCl₃ giving orange-red crystals of PCl₆I, which, by their formation, are probably constituted as PCl₃.ICl₃. The compound sublimed with partial decomposition and deliquesced in moist air with hydrolysis of the PCl₃.
